We are very proud of our link with St Leonard's Church. Our children regularly enjoy attending services and collective worship led by Reverend Benson and Helen Cullen(Deanery Synod Representative and Sides person for St Leonards Church). The children also look forward to collective worship taken by Sophie Etchells (Ministry Assistant) in School.
Helen Cullen writes:
The logo for Monyash CE Primary School, which shows an Ash tree supported by its trunk, in the form of a cross, aptly demonstrates the relationship between the school and the village church in Monyash. The strong links between the two, since the original foundation, have been maintained and developed over the years. The vicar and two foundation governors are active members of the Governing Body of the school, with one of these governors leading regular services of Collective Worship in the church as well as end of term services at Christmas, Easter and Summer. The ‘Leavers’ are presented with Bibles at the latter service that are funded by the church. The school has a dedicated area in the North porch of the church where pictorial reminders of the topics covered in the various services can be seen. As part of the village community event, the school participates in Christian Aid Week, taking part in a special assembly and giving the children’s own pocket money collection. Recently a part time Ministry Assistant has been employed by the group benefice to work with schools and young people and she fosters these links by providing regular in-school assemblies. Many of the school children attend the Monyash Christmas event in church and give performances of some of the items from their own Christmas concert and on other occasions some of the children read Bible passages or help with the singing of songs at special services for such times as Mother’s Day or Harvest.
