This week, we are learning about volume and distance. Does how far away from something you are effect the volume that you hear the sound?
Watch the clip below and have a go at the experiment.
Now you are going to conduct your own investigation into sound and volume.
My question is: What happens to sound the further away it gets? Why?
You are going to need a partner and a tape measure / ruler / something to measure distance.
One of you are going to clap, and the other is going to listen, then move further and further away. What happens to the volume of the clap? Can you go outside and move even further apart?
Think about how you are going to plan and record the results of your investigation on the investigation sheet below. Will anything else affect the way that your partner hears the sound? How can you keep the test fair?
Have fun!
Unfortunately not the ones with chocolate chips.
